WITH the London 2012 Olympics fast approaching, Wakefield Harriers high jumper Martyn Bernard has upped his game by clearing a season’s best height.

Bernard was one of three Wakefield athletes competing in the United States last weekend and he triumphed at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational meeting in Gainesville, Florida, with a leap of 2.20m.

Speed merchant Zara Hohn took part in her first outdoor competition of the year at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa, California, and clocked 14.02s for the 100m hurdles.

She wasn’t finished there however, and 24 hours later Hohn set a personal best 200m time of 25.35s in the Long Beach Invitational before stepping up a gear to finish the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.84s.

Chiedu Ufodiama represented Birmingham University at the Cornell Tri-Meet at Ithaca, New York, and went close to his best in the discus with a throw of 40.59m.
