Wakefield Hockey Club U16s Girls dominated the opening round of England Hockey’s National Cup.
Wakefield started with a clash against Leeds and their 8-0 win was crowned by Ash Madden’s powerful run and reverse stick ‘boomerang’ and Poppy McDermott’s first time deflection into the top corner of the net.
In the next game against York, Abi Rawlings netted two sweet short corner strikes in a 5-0 win.
Thirsk stepped up as the final opponents and applied early pressure that threatened the Wakefield goal.
However, goalkeeper Jess Walsh and Claire Berry led the defensive lines, launching Wakefield’s response as Sally Patton stepped up to record a superb hat-trick in another 5-0 win.
Wakefield’s team play was excellent as they marched into the next round.
