There was an excellent turn out for Wakefield Angling Club’s latest sweepstake match at Newmillerdam.
Winner Neil Mallinson (22lbs 10oz) caught on the groundbait feeder as did the the rest of the top three.
Andy Beech (18lb 12oz) claimed second spot, catching bream on worm and red maggot.
Third-placed Brian Thompson caught six bream in the first two hours but could not add and ended the day with 16lbs 14ozs.
Wakefield veterans were in action at a mid week match at Kettlethorpe Hall.
Runaway winner Mike Sharpe had a mixed bag of fish taken on the pole at ten metres with worm and maggot hook baits for a total of 9lbs 15ozs.
Bob Reah was runner up with 3lbs 13ozs and Ron Haige (1lbs 14oz) was third with 47 small roach and perch.
Wakefield’s next match is this Sunday at Newmillerdam. Tickets can be obtained through the usual channels.
Ossett Angling Club held their latest match of the season at Dale Pit Lakes, Hatfield, near Doncaster.
In windy conditions Tony Dews went into an early lead.
He caught consistently throughout the day on both pole and rod /line on both bread and meat.
However Terry Walker came with a run of fish caught mainly down the edge in the later stages of the match on worm and caster to pip him at the post.
The final result of the match was:
1 Terry Walker (19lb 6oz), 2 Tony Dews 17lb 3oz, 3 Ray Massingham13lb 3oz.
The next match will be this Sunday at Lodge Farm, near Doncaster.
