Rugby Union: Sandal face Bees in pivotal match

One More Game: Jim Kilfoyle
One More Game: Jim Kilfoyle

The race for the National 3 North title and promotion will be decided tomorrow, Saturday, when Sandal host Bradford and Bingley in their final game of the season.

Jim Kilfoyle’s men have won their last 11 games, including a triumph over previous table toppers Harrogate last weekend, but they remain third in the table behind pace setters Chester and second-placed Harrogate.

A victory tomorrow, thus completing a 100 per-cent home record for the season, would still not be enough to break into the top two should Harrogate win at Billingham and Chester vanquish Rossendale at home.

However, a defeat for either of their rivals would propel Sandal up the table and should both pace-setters lose, Sandal could steal the league title on the last day.

Kilfoyle is without flanker Sean Maguire and centre Joe Allott, who were both injured in last week’s bruising encounter while winger James Ellar is unavailable.

Winger Alex Orr comes in for Ellar and Dan McCormack replaces Allott. Jake Mulhern also joins the match day squad.

Sandal squad v Bradford & Bingley (home, kick off 3pm): T Coad, A Orr, D McCormack, D Martin, S Frewin, J Mulhern, G Wood, G Newman, M Whittingham, L Norbury, J Purcell, J Heron, R Norbury, A Thompson, J Stewart, J Gatus, J Briscoe, S Whittingham.
