SANDAL first team moved up to fourth in National 3 North after a hard-fought 25-20 triumph at Waterloo on Saturday.
Sandal full-back Tom Coad raced over to bag the first try of the game only for the hosts to go 10-5 up through Liam Reeve’s penalty and his conversion of Sean Colbourne’s touch-down.
Jim Kilfoyle’s troops regrouped and went into the break 12-10 to the good thanks to Simon Frewin’s try in the corner and Greg Wood’s touchline conversion.
Skipper Wood extended the advantage with a brace of penalties but Reeve replied with one of his own to make it 18-13.
Max Whittingham barged over from a five-metre scrum, Wood goaling, to give Sandal some breathing space with five minutes remaining.
The visitors were home and dry but Waterloo secured a bonus point with Alix Croft’s late try and Reeve’s conversion.
