Sandal saw-off the challenge of local rivals Cleckheaton 58-22 in Saturday’s National 3 North derby at Milnthorpe Green.
Sandal bossed the first half and took a 29-0 lead into the break thanks to Greg Wood’s penalty and tries from James Briscoe, Dave Martin, Simon Frewin and Gareth Newman, three of which were improved by Wood.
Newman added his second early in the second period, Wood converting, before the visitors hit back with two tries to open their account, Danny Vento and Michael Piper crossing the whitewash.
Briscoe bagged his second only for Cleckheaton to reply with touchdowns from Craig Blackburn and James Wilson.
Wood was on target with a penalty before he was stretchered off with a knee injury.
And Sandal ended the game in style when Joe Bedford scored and Newman completed his hat-trick with a score goaled by James Ellar.
