Rugby Union: Wood record and huge win not enough for Sandal

Sandal stormed to a 122-5 win over Bradford and Bingley but it wasn’t enough to achieve a top-two finish in National 3 North.

The massive haul, a club record for Sandal in a league game, secured a 100 per-cent home record for the season and extended their unbeaten run to 19 games.

However, with champions Chester and Harrogate both winning, Jim Kilfoyle’s side ended the season in third and adrift of the promotion spots.

James Stewart (2), James Purcell, Dave Martin (2), Rob Norbury, Alex Orr (2), Tom Coad (3), Simon Frewin (4), Max Whittingham, Dan McCormack (2), Jamie Heron and Austen Thompson all crossed in a dominant performance while Greg Wood (9) and McCormack (2) added conversions.

Wood’s 18 points took his personal tally to 346 for the season, a new individual club record.
