SANDAL RUFC first team have finished the National League 3 North season in eighth place following a 25-14 defeat at West Hartlepool on Saturday.
Jim Kilfoyle’s injury-hit campaign came to an end at Hartlepool, who secured sixth spot in the league as a result of their victory.
Sandal skipper Greg Wood kicked his team into an early lead with a penalty but the hosts hit back through Colin Cheslin’s touch-down and Stu Waites’ conversion.
Hartlepool extended their lead when Gareth Foreman picked-up from a ruck to go over for a fine solo try.
Waites kicked the extras and then added a penalty three minutes later to put the home side in command at the interval.
Wood and Waites exchanged penalties on the resumption and the game was put beyond Sandal when Cheslin went over for his second to make it 25-9.
Jonny Gatus flew down the wing to touch-down an unconverted score but it proved to be no more than a consolation for the visitors.
