After two postponements, Sandal’s trip to Birkenhead Park finally went ahead on Saturday and the visitors prevailed 36-26 to stretch their unbeaten run in National 3 North to 16 games.

It was a close-fought game in which the scores were level with 10 minutes remaining but a fine individual try from James Ellar and Greg Wood’s conversion and penalty edged Sandal ahead in the closing stages.

Jim Kilfoyle’s men had earlier registered through Gareth Newman’s brace, a penalty try and Simon Frewin’s touch-down.

The victory is Sandal’s nine straight league success and they remain third in the table, three points behind Chester and seven adrift of leaders Harrogate.
