Junior gymnasts from Wakefield Gym Club bagged a huge medal haul at two competitions this month.

The club represented Yorkshire at the Inter Regional Championships in Southampton on May 4 and 5 before heading to Stoke-on-Trent for the British NDP Finals last weekend.

Gymnasts from the club won a total of eleven medals, including four golds, at the two events in a range of different categories.

Lila Millard and Eliza Robinson took gold in the Prep B women’s pairs in Southampton with a score of 26.93, ahead of fellow Wakefield club Normanton Sports Acro.

Things got even better for Wakefield as they completed a clean sweep of the medals in the Prep B women’s group.

Alicia Kaye, Ellie Skinner and Evie Westerman-Knight took gold with 26.26, ahead of Madeleine Adams, Lucy Walton and Libby Deuchars (26.0) and Ayshea Miller, Jessica West and Kara Mawson(25.79).

As part of the Yorkshire team, Wakefield were instrumental in helping clinch the Barbara McDuff trophy for their county, with Yorkshire opening up a big lead on Saturday and holding on to clinch the trophy on Sunday.

Last weekend, Wakefield travelled to Stoke for the NDP Finals hoping to get their hands on yet more medals.

They were not to be disappointed, as the club won a haul of seven medals, including two golds, with a series of impressive routines.

Wakefield netted their two golds on the first morning of the competition, with both the Novice and Grade 3 women’s groups topping the tables.

Libby Walton, Caitlen Wigglesworth and Lauren Sykes won the Novice Group with a score of 27.29, while Chrystal Waterhouse, Jess Judge and Ella Shackleton took Grade 3 gold with 53.51.

Wakefield also won three silver medals on Saturday, all at Grade 1, as Sam Reynolds and Deven Waring came second in the mixed pairs, before Brittany Andrews and Imogen Norton repeated the feat in the women’s pairs.

Heather Armitage, Ana Gaio and Ruby Horsman completed a great day for Wakefield with silver in the women’s group.

On Sunday, Milly Eaton and Jessica Ashman bagged another silver in the Grade 2 women’s pairs, before Evie Hancock and Gracie Lumb completed the medal haul in the Prep B women’s pairs.

Melissa Woollin, Aimee Nightingale and Molly Westerman-Knight narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the Grade 2 women’s group as they finished fourth.
