Wakefield Harriers boast seven young athletes within the year’s UK age group top-20 rankings, published by Athletics Weekly.

The Wakefield club’s field events specialists were very successful last year and this was evident in the lists.

Abby Ward was ranked second in the U15s girls high jump (1.68m) and also claimed equal-17th in the pole vault with 2.70m.

Abby’s high jump also puts her equal-11th in the U17s women’s standings.

Edward Dunbavin is equal-18th in the U15s boys pole vault with 2.90m while Abigail Roberts is second in the U17s women’s pole vault list with 3.80m.

That leap also puts Roberts third in the U20s women’s pole vault rankings.

William Ingram’s time of 4:36.20 puts him 14th in the U17s men’s 1,500m steeplechase and Scott Atkinson’s 47.91 is the seventh best time in the U20s men’s 400m.

Sally Smith is placed 18th in the U20s women’s 800m (2:09.47) and Bethany Porter is 20th in the U20s women’s heptathlon rankings with 3,876 points.
