Wakefield cycling starlet Oliver Wood will go up against Sir Bradley Wiggins when the Tour de Yorkshire gets off the line next week.
Wood, 19, is one of 10 Yorkshiremen who will ride in the event, which gets underway in Bridlington on Friday, May 1.
He is among a star-studded line up that includes four-time Olympic champion and former Tour de France winner Wiggins, star sprinter Marcel Kittel and Barnsley’s double Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy.
The prospect of going wheel-to-wheel with such a field excites Wood, who is particularly looking forward to a return to his home town for the start of the third stage on Sunday, May 3.
Wood said: “The event will be something really special and it is great to be selected.
“When the Tour de France came to Yorkshire, the people loved it and hopefully we will see similar scenes.”
Wood, who will compete for the Team GB team, said: “We haven’t set any team targets but we will try and get involved in early breaks to get ourselves into a good position and stay there as long as possible.
“I will be fully focused on the event but I am also determined to try and enjoy the experience as much as I can.”
