Wakefield cycling ace Ollie Wood has been named in a provisional Great Britain squad for next month’s UCI Junior Track World Championships.
Wood, part of British Cycling’s Olympic Development Programme, has been included in a six-man squad for the Men’s Endurance event at the championships, held in Glasgow from August 7-11.
Only five will compete on the world stage, however, with British Cycling coaches set to run the rule over their six talented riders at a training camp next week, with Wood, 17, set to find out on Tuesday if he’ll be involved.
Performance Manager Shane Sutton said: “I’ve been impressed with what the young GB endurance riders have produced on the road this season, and it will be interesting to see how that transfers across to the track. Holding the event in Glasgow is a great opportunity for this young squad to compete in a home environment and the whole team is looking forward to getting on the start line.”
Full squad: Women’s Sprint: Dannielle Khan. Men’s Endurance (5 will compete): Germain Burton, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Matthew Gibson, Christopher Lawless, Jacob Ragan, Oliver Wood. Women’s Endurance: Amy Hill, Hayley Jones, Emily Kay, Emily Nelson, Bethany Hayward (reserve).
