PROP Oliver Wilkes will get the chance to prove he’s fit and ready for the start of Super League when Wakefield Wildcats take on Batley Bulldogs in a trial game on Sunday.

Wildcats head coach Richard Agar has named his squad for Sunday’s trip to Mount Pleasant (kick-off 2pm) and Wilkes, who’s been recovering from an operation to have his appendix removed, will get a starting role.

Andy Ellis, Kyle Amor, Kyle Wood and Motu Tony are also amongst the names in Agar’s squad to come up against John Kear’s Co-operative Championship club in Wakefield’s final trial game before the big kick-off next Friday.

“We have some guys who want to be in the 17 at Widnes that are short of game time,” said Agar.

“Players like Oli Wilkes need some time on the pitch under their belt to see if they’re ready for Widnes.”

Frankie Mariano has initially been included in Sunday’s squad but Wakefield’s medical staff will assess his toe injury before giving him the green light to feature.

Wildcats squad: Motu Tony, Sam Fletcher, Danny Cowling, Lucas Walshaw, Dale Morton, Matty Wildie, Kyle Wood, Oliver Wilkes, Andy Ellis, Kyle Amor, Frankie Mariano, Adam Slater, Kyle Trout. Replacements: Matt James, James Davey, Liam Kay, Russ Spiers, Tom Lillycrop, Adam Gledhill, Chris Annakin.
