A final date with Guiseley at Bradford City’s Valley Parade ground awaits Ossett Town if they can cause a West Riding County Cup shock at home against FC Halifax Town in tonight’s semi-final (kick-off 7.45pm).

Town are just 90 minutes away from a the cup final at the home of the Capital One Cup finalists but face a tough task before meeting holders Guiseley and old boss Steve Kittrick, with the Blue Square North promotion-chasing Shaymen standing in their way.

The match will be one of the biggest in recent years at Town’s Ingfield ground, with a bumper crowd expected and the prize for the winners a memorable night at the Bantams’ home.

Halifax will be favourites to progress thanks to their lofty position in the Blue Square Bet North table - two divisions higher than Town.

But Town boss Neil Aspin is expected to make changes to his strongest starting line-up with his men having played a league match at Vauxhall Motors just 24 hours prior to tonight’s kick-off.

Craig Elliott’s men will fancy their chances of pulling off an upset, too, thanks to their achievements in knockout competitions already this season.

The former Glasshoughton Welfare manager, in his first season in Ossett, guided his men to an FA Trophy first round tie at Stockport County in November, beating Blue Square Bet North opposition Workington en route.

The run ensured his Town troops will have big match experience ahead of tonight’s West Yorkshire contest.

“I am sure the players selected will give it everything they have,” Elliott told the official Ossett Town website.

“I’m fully aware of the challenge FC Halifax will bring as whatever team they pick will be strong. However, let’s hope it’s the night of the underdog and as anyone knows anything is possible in a semi final.”

Tonight’s match will be played at the third time of asking, with the weather twice forcing it to be postponed - and Elliott and his Town side will be hoping it is worth the wait.

Guiseley await the winners and will be favourites to win the competition for the third year on the spin.
