Agar: Victory over Hull KR has set the standards for Wakefield Wildcats this year
Richard Agar says victory over Hull KR has set the standards required of his Wakefield Trinity Wildcats side ahead of a tricky trip to the capital.
A 36-20 win over Rovers last weekend gave Wakefield their first points of Super League XVIII and showed vast improvements on their opening day loss at Bradford Bulls.
Agar is keen to see those improvements continue when his troops visit winless London Broncos on Sunday (kick-off 3pm) looking to avenge a 36-0 loss at Twickenham Stoop last term.
“It wasn’t perfect [against Hull KR] but it was a massive improvement,” said the Cats boss.
“There’s still plenty in there that we know we can get a lot better at and we’ve got to keep working really hard towards that and we will.”
He continued: “Hopefully we’ve set the standards and set the stall out for what’s required, particularly in the middle of the park.”
Broncos may have lost their opening two matches of the season but Wakefield have struggled in the capital, losing their last three matches on London’s home turf.
A 36-0 defeat in front of the television cameras at Twickenham Stoop last term provided Wildcats with arguably their worst showing of last season.
“Privately one or two have mentioned that to me,” said Agar.
“We’re aware of one or two things we may change.
“It was an evening kick-off whereas this is an afternoon kick-off and I think we trained down there, so we’re going to train up here and try and change one or two things, but we’re going to put the focus on us and make sure our attitude’s right.”
Tony Rea’s men have been slow out of the blocks this season but Agar believes that makes Wakefield’s opponents a dangerous animal.
“Despite their scores London will probably feel that they’re not too far away,” he said.
“There was enough in both of their games to suggest there was a team in there not far off getting their first win so we need to guard against that.”
Wakefield have no fresh injury worries and are set to name an unchanged 19-man squad.
