Bears and Albion gear up for FA Trophy ties

UNIBOND Premier League duo Wakefield FC and Ossett Albion take a break from league action this weekend as they look to progress in the FA Trophy.

For Wakefield FC, it'll be the third cup tie in a week, having already crashed out of the FA Cup with a 3-0 defeat against Fleetwood Town last weekend, and a 2-1 defeat at FC Halifax Town in the UniBond League Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

And Bears' boss Ronnie Glavin will be hoping it's third time lucky as far as cup competitions are concerned for his troops when they travel to Spalding United in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The Lincolnshire club have enjoyed a promising start to their campaign in UniBond Division 1 South this season, currently sitting seventh and two points from a play-off spot.

And Alan Biley's men are sure to cause the College Grove club all kinds of problems at their Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field ground.

Despite a superb start to their UniBond Division 1 North campaign, Ossett Albion have struggled to find the same form in cup competition's this season and will be hoping that changes when they travel to Rushall Olympic for their FA Trophy tie on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

But Eric Gilchrist will be making the trip to the UniBond Division 1 South play-off hopefuls without the services of top scorer Shane Kelsey, who missed out through suspension after picking up five bookings already this season.

Kelsey has already bagged nine goals in all competitions this season, and Gilchrist will be looking to the rest of his squad to step up and bag the goals to fire Albion through to the next round.

Both Albion and Wakefield FC will have extra cause to progress in the competition this season, with an increase in prize-fund seeing winners of Preliminary Round matches bagging 2,000.
