Captain’s Column: Approach and attitude key as we look to continue improved form at London Broncos

For the London game we’ll be travelling down the day before and we’ll spend some time in the hotel the night before the match.

It means we should be fresh and ready for the game against the Broncos on the day.

Most of the other games are around the M62 area so it’s only for the Catalans and London games that we will go and stay in a hotel, but it’s probably the best way to prepare for those games.

We train here at the ground and then get the coach down to the hotel where we’ll have a bit of rehab, a bit of a swim and stuff like that.

Martin Clawson, the strength and conditioning coach, is always on the ball and he makes sure the boys are putting the full effort into the rehab session when you get there.

He has a little rule now, too, where he does not allow sleeping on the bus. He likes to be known as the sleep police!

We were disappointed last time we played down at Twickenham Stoop when we lost 36-0 last season.

When we went there we were in a bit of good form because we’d just had a good result against Catalans Dragons, we’d started to turn our season around a bit. So it was a low point after we’d picked ourselves up.

It’s definitely a difficult place to go but we’re preparing for the game well, we’ve got to be at our best and that’s how we’re looking to go down there. We’re not focussing too much on London, more on ourselves and how we approach it.

Beating Hull KR was a great reaction to what was a low point and a poor week for us the week before at Bradford.

We spoke all week about reacting positively to it and really getting our attitude right for the game. I think we did that and we did it against a good Hull KR team with some good players in there. We showed some good character to get the win.

It made this week a lot easier; it’s always easier after a win. It was a great atmosphere at Saturday’s match and everyone was really happy.

This Monday morning was definitely a lot different to the previous Monday morning. It’s a lot more enjoyable to be around the place when you’ve got a win and, more importantly, a good performance like we did last week. There were no ‘two out of ten’ performances this week and the coach was certainly happy about that.

Ben Cockayne has been getting a bit of friendly stick about his dog rehoming thing this week!

Benny is always doing something for charity which is really good, he likes to do his bit in the community, but he’s been spending a lot of time at the dog rehoming kennels recently and has been getting banter for it!

- Danny.
