Former Wakefield Trinity star tackles coast-to-coast RFL Benevolent Fund cycle ride

FORMER Wakefield Trinity Wildcats star Gary Price is to tackle the coast-to-coast charity cycle challenge on behalf of the Rugby Football League Benevolent Fund.

The former Great Britain star will be in a group of five enthusiastic cyclists, bidding to cycle from Blackpool to Scarborough - in one day - on July 18.

Departing from Blackpool Tower at 5.30am their route takes in Clitheroe, Skipton, Harrogate, York, Malton and Pickering before eventually arriving at the Spa on Scarborough's seafront in the early evening.

The five participants are Andy Blakeley, Gary Price, Jacques Banting, Ian Boyes and John Auty, who have been training for over three months for the event and recently completed a gruelling 100-mile ride in preparation for this challenge.

This challenge follows on from their inclusion in the Wakefield triathlon last year where they raised over 1,000 for three separate rugby charities.

On this occasion all money raised will be donated directly to the RFL Benevolent Fund.

"If a player is fortunate enough to retire from his playing career without a serious injury and subsequent assistance from the benevolent fund," said Price, "there is every chance he knows someone who has.

"This is why we all feel so strongly about the work of this charity and are looking forward to generating a very healthy donation to add to the fund."

If you would like to sponsor these athletes you can make donations directly to the RFL Benevolent Fund through their website: www.rflbenevolentfund.co.uk

Click on either the Just Giving link or Paypal buttons at the bottom of the page. Include the reference CYCLING180709 so that the total amount raised can be calculated.

Alternatively donations can be made directly to the team through Andy Blakeley, Hopton Primary School, Woodend Road, Mirfield WF14 8PR.
