Horbury's Slazenger show confidence
AFTER losing eight of their starting 11 and suffering relegation last season, Slazenger men's first team have shown signs of more confident performances in their pre-season games.
Slazenger got off to a bad start and trailed 3-0 to a strong LA Carnegie outfit after only 10 minutes of their friendly match.
However, the hosts battled back against their opposition from a higher league and, inspired by Jonny White and Paul Wiper, reduced the deficit through Simon Chamberlain's penalty stroke just before the break.
The visitors netted a fourth but Wiper's penalty stroke marked a much-improved period of play in which Slazenger pushed forward.
A late breakaway gave LA Carnegie a fifth goal but the hosts were encouraged by Jack Mumford's debut in goal.
The pre-season game against Chapeltown 2nds proved to be much closer and Slazenger were unfortunate not to get something from the clash.
Jack Kitchen gave the lead to Slazenger who enjoyed long spells of possession.
However, a goal in each half completed Chapeltown's 2-1 comeback victory.
