Jennings treble helps Stockport County end Ossett Town’s FA Trophy adventure

OSSETT Town’s FA Trophy adventure came to an end at Stockport County on Saturday as the Blue Square Bet Premier Hatters romped to a 6-0 victory in the first round tie.

Connor Jennings hit a hat-trick on his Edgeley Park debut while Daniel Hattersley added a brace and Danny Rose completed the scoring as the hosts made sure their Evo-Stik Division 1 North visitors had no chance of an upset.

Craig Elliott’s side can still look back on a superb run in the competition, however, and the Town coffers have been swelled thanks to bagging almost £10,000 in FA prize money, as well as a share of the takings from the 1,697 gate on Saturday.

The Town boss will also be hoping his men can use their impressive run to kick-on in the league, where they sit 14th, and the West Riding County Cup, where they have progressed to the semi-finals.

The visitors held out only ten minutes into Saturday’s clash when Jennings, a recent arrival at County on a loan deal from Scunthorpe United, broke the deadlock.

Six minutes later it was 2-0 as Hattersley headed home his eighth goal of the season from a Sam Sheridan corner.

The Hatters were cruising but Town were not going to leave without making a fight of it and Shane Kelsey fired a shot over the bar.

The visitors’ fight was all but over just before the half-time whistle, however, when Jennings grabbed his second of the afternoon, knocking home from close range after Town goalkeeper Matthew Convey had saved well from a Sean Newton free-kick.

Still, Ossett started the second half well and Kelsey forced County keeper Lewis King into a smart save and Simon Baldy saw claims for a penalty waved away by the officials.

Jennings completed his hat-trick ten minutes after the restart before Danny Rose and Hattersley added further goals to add icing to the Stockport cake.
