Leeds United keep it clean

LEEDS United manager Simon Grayson was delighted with a first away win and a clean sheet as his team came away from Watford with a 1-0 win.

The defence had failed to impress in the opening weeks of the new season, but Grayson praised his back four and goalkeeper for their efforts in keeping out a Watford side unbeaten in the Championship before Saturday's game.

In the end Leeds won with a single early goal from skipper Richard Naylor after the ball fell to him when Luciano Becchio's effort had been blocked.

The game failed to fire with both sides struggling to play constructive football, but the United boss was happy on this occasion to just take the points with their first clean sheet in an away game since they won at Manchester United in January.

Grayson said: "We didn't pass the ball as well as we can but we defended well and Kasper (Schmeichel) was excellent.

"You don't always get an opportunity to express yourself but I am delighted to have got our first away win of the season and a clean sheet.

"We knew we would have to battle and scrap for the points and we've had an encouraging start to the season. With a two-week break before we play Swansea, we have given ourselves a platform to build on for the rest of the season."
