Leeds United let it slip to crash out of cup
LEEDS United let a lead slip as they crashed out of the Carling Cup at the second round stage against Leicester at Elland Road.
The Whites looked comfortable after Davide Somma headed in his third goal in two games just after the half hour, but two goals in the last 24 minutes from Richie Wellens and Steve Howard, from the penalty spot, turned the game round.
Both came from defensive mistakes from United as former Doncaster midfielder Wellens struck following an error on the edge of his own box by Bradley Johnson and Howard's 89th minute penalty came after Neill Collins needlessly handled the ball in his own area.
Luciano Becchio had a shot cleared off the line, Max Gradel, in his return from a four-match ban, forced a good save from Leicester keeper Conrad Logan and Somma went close twice, but United faded after a promising opening 45 minutes and were grateful to their own goalkeeper, Shane Higgs, who made two stunning saves to deny Howard and Danny N'Guessan.
