Leeds United youngster attracts Premiership interest
LEEDS United could be about to lose another of their talented young players with Everton poised to swoop for England youth international Luke Garbutt.
The 16-year-old highly rated left-back made a mark for England under 17s this summer and came to the attention of Premier League Everton, who are set to test United's resolve with a bid to take the youngster across the Pennines.
Leeds have indicated that they do not wish to sell their best youngsters and have so far resisted the temptation to cash in this summer, but could be tempted if a big bid comes in.
Garbutt scored in a 1-1 draw for England under 17s against Holland in the recent European tournament and also played in the group clash with hosts Germany.
Leeds, meanwhile, have parted company with one player after releasing midfielder Peter Sweeney.
The 24-year-old made only nine appearances for the club after joining in January, 2008, and his contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
"(Sweeney] is at the stage of his career where he needs to play regular football and I can't guarantee him that here," said United manager Simon Grayson.
Grimsby are expected to sign Sweeney after he had a loan spell with the League Two club last season.
