Ossett Albion and Wakefield FC out to end five-game winless run

OSSETT Albion and Wakefield FC will target much-needed wins to haul them away from relegation trouble this weekend.

Albion host fellow strugglers Prescot Cables at Dimple Wells on Saturday while Wakefield FC welcome Cammell Laird to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium (both kick-off at 3pm).

Both teams have gone five games without a win in all competitions and will be desperate to get points on the board to move them away from the wrong end of the table before the hectic Christmas and New Year fixture schedule.

Albion fell to two defeats in the space of three days across the Pennines.

They suffered a 2-1 defeat at Burscough on Saturday before having a quick turnaround for a trip to Curzon Ashton on Monday night, where they lost 3-2.

Henry Owen had given Albion a 1-0 half-time lead at Burscough but two William Jones goals gave the hosts the points on Saturday.

The Dimple Wells side looked to bounce back at Curzon and stayed in touch with their hosts for long spells before eventually losing out by the odd goal in five.

Adam Hayton and Dale Kelly bagged the Albion goals.

For Wakefield FC Saturday’s visit of mid-table Lairds gives Paul Lines and his men a ninth chance to get their first home point of the campaign.

The Bears have lose all eight of their home league matches so far this term but have fared better on their travels, with Saturday’s game at Farlsey being the exception.

The Leeds club eased to a 3-0 win over ten-man Wakefield thanks to a brace of Adam Priestley strikes and one from Ryan Watson.

Micah Bleau’s first-half sending-off for two bookable offences left the visitors with it all to do for an hour of the match against their hosts and they left pointless.
