Ossett Town star man Clayton to open talks over Stocksbridge switch
OSSETT Town's star man Adam Clayton is set to open talks over a move to UniBond Premier Division rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Midfielder Clayton, who's the club's top scorer so far this season with nine goals, was subject of seven days' notice by Steels, who are managed by former Town boss Simon Collins.
He can open talks with the Sheffield club from Saturday, following Ossett's vital clash at Frickley Athletic (kick-off 3pm weather permitting).
And although Stade France boss Peter Daniel would love his star man to stay at the club, he admits he'd understand if Clayton opted for a switch.
"Unfortunately we're not in a position where we can offer lots of players contracts so I can understand from Adam's point of view if he wants to go there," he said.
"But I've told him I'd like him to stay here, it's never good to lose a player who's scored so many goals from midfield."
Daniel has used the four-week 'break' from competitive action, due to postponements, to bolster his squad with a triple signing.
Andrew Catton has made the short switch from local rivals Ossett Albion on a permanent deal.
And Daniel has secured the loan signings of two Northern Ireland youth internationals.
Young York City striker Michael Emmerson and Bradford City hot prospect Rory Carson, a midfielder, have both arrived at Ingfield on initial month-long deals.
And the trio could all go straight into the squad for Saturday's vital trip to Frickley.
