Ossett Trinity 28 Ovenden3 5

TRINITY came agonisingly close to pulling off a shock win over National Conference League Division Two side Ovenden in the first round of the BARLA National Cup.

The CMS Yorkshire League Unison Division 1 leaders forced the tie into extra time with the scores locked at 26-26 but the hosts edged ahead to scrape through into round two.

Trinity's Ben Jennings went over for a brace and Richard Ginnelly and Gav Westbury also crossed for the visitors but Gareth English's double and tries from Mickey Holden, Brett Steele and Steve Gracey gave the Halifax side the advantage going into the final 10 minutes of regulation time.

However, Trinity were not finished and Ash Lindsay levelled the game in dramatic fashion when he converted his own try.

Lindsay goaled again in extra time but Matty Collins' penalty and drop goal gave the hosts the lead before the win was sealed by Matty Turner's try and Collins' extras.
