Relegation-threatened Ossett Town set for huge week of UniBond League action
RELEGATION-threatened Ossett Town face a huge week of UniBond Premier League action with a double dose of 'must-win' matches.
Town, who sit second from bottom in the Premier Division and without a win under new boss Peter Daniel, host rock-bottom Durham City tomorrow before relegation rivals Matlock Town visit Stade France on Tuesday night.
Both matches are relegation 'six pointers' and could well decide whether Town will be playing Premier Division or Division 1 North action next term.
Three crucial points against lowly Durham City, a side who've lost every single league match so far this season, are simply a must for Daniel and his men.
Victory would provide Town with their first win since October, which came against basement side Durham, and would give them a much-needed confidence boost in the battle against the drop.
It would also lead them nicely into another huge match against Matlock Town on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
Matlock sit directly above Town going into the weekend matches and success on Tuesday night, and against Durham on Saturday, could see Town leap out of the bottom two.
It's also a huge week for Ossett Albion as they look to climb away from relegation trouble in Division 1 North with success in two tough away matches.
Eric Gilchrist's men visit in-form promotion-hopefuls Warrington Town tomorrow before visiting Salford City on Tuesday night.
The Warehouse Systems Stadium club will no doubt be keen to get something from their weekend clash at Warrington, but it's their clash at Salford which could be key to their survival.
City sit just two points above Albion going into the weekend matches and victory for Gilchrist's men would, depending on the results at the weekend, lift them above their Lancashire rivals.
Wakefield FC will be looking to continue their bright start to 2010 when high-flying FC Halifax Town are the visitors to College Grove tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).
The Bears saw off Rossendale United 2-0 in their only league fixture of the year so far and enjoyed West Riding County Cup progression with a thumping 6-3 win against Liversedge on Tuesday night.
Huddersfield Town loan duo Tom Denton and Lewis Nightingale will be included in the Wakefield squad.
Ronnie Glavin's men are the only side to take league points from The Shay this season when they picked up an impressive 1-1 draw there earlier this season.
And Glavin and his troops will be looking to cause another surprise against the promotion-hopefuls in front of their home support.
