Rugby Union: Sandal must avoid complacency at Percy Park
Dan McCormack
More of the same: That’s what Sandal boss Jim Kilfoyle will be looking for from his team when they visit Percy Park in National 3 North tomorrow, Saturday.
Sandal travel to North Shields 11 games unbeaten and on the back of last weekend’s brilliant 51-28 win over league leaders Chester.
But the promotion hopefuls will have to guard against complacency when they take on a Park side who sit just one spot below third-placed Sandal in the table.
Kilfoyle acknowledged his side’s efforts in beating Chester, saying: “We really got at them and physically, [Chester] were not as committed as us.
“We were so convincing and people were telling me that it was the best performance they had seen from a Sandal team.”
However, Kilfoyle also recognised that poor kicking had gifted Chester a half-time lead and that is something he will look to eradicate before the trip to Preston Avenue tomorrow.
After a run of three consecutive defeats, Park will be desperate to regain the fine form they showed at the start of the season when they triumphed in their first half-dozen games, their sixth a 20-18 success over Chester.
Kilfoyle has made only one change to the squad that won last weekend, Dan McCormack replacing the unavailable Mark Pease.
Squad: T Coad, J Ellar, J Allott, D Martin, D McCormack, S Frewin, G Wood, M Whittingham, L Norbury, J Heron, R Norbury, J Warwick, A Thompson, J Stewart, T Cotterill, S Maguire, J Gatus, J Briscoe.
