Wakefield FC snap-up Farsley Celtic's James Walshaw

FORMER Ossett Town striker James Walshaw has arrived at local rivals Wakefield FC in a bid to end the Bears' goal drought in UniBond Division 1 North.

Ronnie Glavin's men have failed to find the back of the net in their last two matches, and the Bears' boss has been wary his side have struggled for goals all season.

Dewsbury-born Walshaw is expected to go straight into the Wakefield side that welcome Bamber Bridge to College Grove on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

And Glavin will be hoping Walshaw, who's arrived at the club from Blue Square North side Farsley Celtic, can hit the ground runnning after notching eight goals in 15 starts for Celtic this season.

"He's coming here to get us goals," he said.

"I've tried to sign him twice before, once at the start of the season, and he'll be involved on Saturday.

"He's a young striker but someone who has lots of experience at this level and I've watched him for a few years so I know what he's all about."

Walshaw was tipped to progress to Football League level during his time at Ingfield with Ossett Town.

One current Wakefield FC player who's also hoping to make the step up to Football League action is defender Marc Roberts who enjoyed a one-week trial with Championship side Crystal Palace.

But Glavin is yet to receive any news over whether the youngster is set to follow in the footsteps of Tom Denton, who also went for a trial at Selhurst Park before deciding on a move to Huddersfield Townn, and make the move away from College Grove.

He said: "Marc went along initially just for a week's trial so they (Crystal Palace) could have a look at him.

"I speak to them regularly but there's been movement as yet."
