Wakefield Harrier Bernard named in England Commonwealth Games team

WAKEFIELD Harriers high jumper Martyn Bernard has been named in the England team that will compete in this year's Commonwealth Games.

Bernard, who won a bronze medal at the European Athletics Championships, in Barcelona, last month, is among the squad of 100 athletes that will challenge for honours in the Games in Delhi, India, from October 3 to 14.

The 25 year-old will be hoping to go one better than the silver medal he won at the last Commonwealth Games, in Melbourne, four years ago, when the English team took home a total of six gold, four silver and eight bronze medals.

The English squad also includes double European gold medalist Mo Farah, triple jumper Phillips Idowu, Christine Ohuruogu and Lisa Dobriskey.
