Wakefield Wildcats hooker Newton in race to be fit for Catalans clash

WAKEFIELD Wildcats hooker Terry Newton has been given "every opportunity" to be fit and ready for Sunday's Super League clash with Catalans Dragons after head coach John Kear included him in the Cats' 19-man squad.

The former Bradford Bulls man was injured in Wakefield's opening day success at Harlequins RL last weekend and initial fears were that he could be sidelined with a bicep injury for some time.

But scans showed the damage wasn't as bad as first feared, and the experienced hooker is in-line for a first run out on home soil this season when the French side are the visitors on Sunday (kick-off 3.30pm).
