Wakefield Wildcats' successful touch rugby league competition reaches halfway point

THE Cobra Kai's are the only unbeaten team as Wakefield Wildcats' touch rugby league competition enters its fifth successful week.

This week's matches at Belle Vue will complete the first round of fixtures for the 12 teams taking part in the competition.

And the league standings are shaping up nicely thanks to over 120 touch rugby league players of all abilities making the tournament a big success.

The tournament is split into two leagues of six teams - eight of which have never played competitive touch rugby league before.

And Wildcats development officer Richard Cattley has hailed the competition as a big success.

"As the competition reaches the halfway point it's great to see how much enjoyment the teams are getting out of it," he said.

"We have established touch rugby teams taking part alongside teams that have never player before! We have players that have retired from the professional game and players – such as members of the Wildcat Dolls – who have never even played rugby before taking part.

"That's the whole idea behind touch rugby – to re-engage players that have left the sport and to introduce new players through a non-contact, social version of the game.

"I wish all the teams the best of luck in the remaining weeks and that their enjoyment continues."

Battling it out in the Social B league are The Card Factory Blues, The Card Factory Greens, The Pie Munchers, All Black Raiders, The Double Ds, and Less Pies, More Tries.

In the Social A league are The Cobra Kai's, Belle Vue Cons, The Past Players, Sessel'' Seagulls, The Sensational Six, and Wakefield College Staff.
