Wakefield Harriers named in GB squad for European Athletics Championships
WAKEFIELD Harriers Martyn Bernard and Emily Freeman have been named in the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team that will compete in this year's European Championships.
High jump star Bernard and sprinter Emily Freeman are in a strong team that will travel to Barcelona for the championships, which run from July 27 to August 1.
World championship finalist Freeman will double up to compete in the 200m and the 4x100m relay and both Harriers are keen to build on encouraging recent form.
Bernard won the high jump title at the UK Aviva European Trials and UK Championships, in Birmingham, last week with a season's best leap of 2.28m.
Freeman clocked a season's best 200m time to help Great Britain and Northern Ireland to victory in the European Team Championships, held in Bergen a fortnight ago.
Sheffield heptathlon star and reigning world champion Jessica Ennis has been named captain of the squad.
