White Rose boxer set to enter ring for finals of ABA Schoolboys Championships

Wakefield boxer Sam Clark will look to pack a punch on the national stage after booking his place in the finals of the ABA Schoolboys Championships.

The White Rose Boxing Club fighter came through his national semi-final bout in convincing fashion in Havercroft to book a final date with Hoddesdon opponent Raja Khan in the final.

The Wakefield City High School pupil defeated Michael Jaques, of Spennymoor Boxing Club, from County Durham, in the Class 3 42kgs category last-four bout to make amends for last year’s semi-final loss.

He will become the first White Rose boxer for a number of years to fight in the finals of the ABA Schoolboys Championships, to be held at Everton Sports Centre in Liverpool this Saturday.

“He boxed really well and deserved to win,” said White Rose coach John Hall.

“The feedback I received from Billy McAdam and Richard Beavers [club coaches] was that he boxed aggressively and that he boxed clever and he’s got every chance of winning in the finals.”

Clark won on points in the three-round contest and will train at White Rose’s Lightwaves Leisure Centre base to ensure he’s at the top of his game again in the finals.

Stablemate Harem Ali will defend his Welterweight Yorkshire Challenge Belt for the first time on Friday, March 8 when he takes on Keighley’s Sohail Ayub at Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford.
