Wigan Warriors full-back Richard Mathers escapes ban

WIGAN Warriors full-back Richard Mathers has escaped a ban after being sent off in the game with Wakefield Wildcats last Friday.

Mathers was sent off by Wakefield-based referee Ben Thaler on 37 minutes after leading with his forearm going into a tackle being made by Wildcats skipper Jason Demetriou.

The Rugby Football League's disciplinary panel decided on Tuesday that suspension wasn't necessary after reviewing the incident.

Mathers is now clear to play against his former club Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

Wigan Warriors full-back Richard Mathers was cleared to play against his former club Leeds on Friday after the committee decided not to suspend him for a strike with his forearm.

The panel found Mathers guilty but ruled the dismissal was sufficient punishment.
