Wildcats 'architects of own downfall' against Bradford Bulls

Bradford Bulls 38 Wakefield Wildcats 28 WAKEFIELD Wildcats were the architects of their own downfall according to coach John Kear.

The Belle Vue boss said the second quarter of the game was where the match was won and lost.

"We were the architects of our own downfall," he said. "It was in the quarter before half-time that we went from 12-0 up to 26-12 down and we just made error after error.

"Early tackle errors and then late tackle penalties and that just killed us.

"The Wayne Godwin try before half-time gave us one score too many to fight back from."

On the plus side, Kear added that he thought his side played some good rugby, entertained the fans and showed some fighting spirit, particularly in the second half.

Wakefield went 12-0 up with tries from Danny Kirmond and Daryl Millard, but Bulls levelled through Brett Kearney and Andy Lynch.

And Godwin crossed twice before the break to put the hosts ahead, and a further try from Elliott Whitehead early in the second half seemingly put Bradford in control.

But Bradford haven't lost a club record 12 games on the bounce before Sunday without reason, and Wakefield exposed weaknesses in the home defence to cut the deficit.

Sam Obst, Glenn Morrison and Sean Gleeson all crossed the whitewash but it wasn't enough to avoid a fifth straight defeat for the travellers.
