Wildcats head coach hoping for Warrington and Huddersfield Challenge Cup success

WAKEFIELD Wildcats head coach John Kear won't be hiding his allegiances for this weekend's Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-finals.

The Wildcats take a break from Super League action this weekend as Warrington Wolves take on Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants face St Helens in the last four of the presitigious competition.

And Kear, who has won the Challenge Cup twice with Sheffield Eagles and Hull FC, is hoping Huddersfield and Warrington make the final at Wembley on Saturday, August 26.

"They're both going to be great semi-final matches there's no doubt about that," he said.

"For me I'd like to see Huddersfield and Warrington get to the final because it'll give us different finalists and different winners of the competition which would be good to see.

"But they're both going to be close matches and they'll be a great advert for rugby league."

Wigan ended Wakefield's hopes of success in this year's competition when they ran out 28-17 winners over the Wildcats at Belle Vue in Round 5.

Brian Noble's men will come up against Tony Smith's Wolves on Saturday at the Stobart Stadium, kick-off 2.30pm.

And Huddersfield will face current Super League leaders St Helens at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday, kick-off 6pm.

Both matches are covered live on the BBC.
