Wrenthorpe Cricket Club to compete in new cup competition

WRENTHORPE Cricket Club will take on the Bradford League champions in a new pre-season cup competition to be played in April.

League champions and cup holders from each league will contest honours in the annual competition and Wrenthorpe will entertain their Bradford League counterparts Woodlands in the inaugural cup-winners clash.

Due to Wrens’ victory in the Jack Hampshire Trophy last season, runners-up Townville will represent the Central Yorkshire League in the cup-winners’ final against Priestley Cup holders Pudsey St Lawrence.

Wrenthorpe secretary Phil Allan believes that the 40-over games will be ones to look forward to, saying: “These matches will have a strong competitive element, will be eagerly-anticipated and should attract good attendances.

“In addition, they will help to forge even stronger relations between the two leagues, to their mutual benefit.”

Wrenthorpe will be at home to Woodlands on Sunday, April 15 (noon) while Townville will travel to Pudsey St Lawrence in the cup-winners’ contest on Saturday, April 14 (noon).

The Central Yorkshire League have donated the Worthington Trophy, to be presented to the winners of the champions’ game, and the Bradford League will donate a trophy for the cup-winners’ clash.
