Sporting rivalries between Pontefract New College and Wakefield College will resume later this month when the annual Varsity Challenge takes place.
The rival colleges will go head-to-head across a range of sporting disciplines including football, rugby league, tennis, basketball, netball, athletics and swimming for the Varsity Shield.
New College won the Shield last year and Wakefield will be out to up their game and gain revenge when this year’s battle takes place across a number of the district’s sporting venues on Wednesday, March 27.
Katie Matthews, lecturer in sport at Wakefield College, said: “This year’s College Varsity Challenge will once again prove to be a tough battle with 18 points up for grabs.
“We will have over 250 students competing in various sports throughout the day and I am confident that this year we will up our game and give New College a tough time.”
The Varsity Challenge shopiece finale will be a rugby league clash between the colleges held at the Big Fellas Stadium in Featherstone (kick-off 6.30pm).
Tickets for the match are priced at £2 and will be available on the night for students from both colleges to support their team.
Matthews added: “I hope as many local people as possible can come down to the Big Fellas Stadium on March 27 to cheer our team on!”
