PUGNEYS Pirates sailed away with an impressive third-place finish at the Team15 Champions Cup.
The Wakefield windsurfers booked their place in the national finals of the competition after becoming RYA North Zone champions and went sail-to-sail with eight other regional champions at Pitsford Reservoir near Northampton.
They continued their good form to impress on the national stage and improve on last year’s fifth-placed finish.
And Pirates head coach Roy Peacock was pleased to see his ever-improving team make waves in the event.
“I am absolutely delighted for the team who continue to improve year upon year,” he said.
“I cannot fault the effort the team has put in.
“Some of our windsurfers had worked so hard in the light winds that we had to send them out with their hands taped up as they blistered.
“The team spirit has been excellent as ever and like all true pirates, we will be looking to the horizon next year for more adventures on the water.”
Hythe Hotshots lifted the cup and Axbridge Animals finished second.
Anyone aged 15 or under interested in joining the Pirates should attend team training at Pugneys on Saturday morning from 9.30am.
Pirates team: Matt English, Eve Collett, Fiona Anderson, Paul Dinsdale, Joe Carter, Jane Vallance, Christina Coates, Joe Thompson, Jacob Collett, Oliver Anderson, Tom Sambrook, Matt Carey and Josh Carey.
