THE RFL has provisionally suspended Doncaster RLFC centre Shaun Leaf with immediate effect pending the outcome of an investigation into an alleged breach of the RFL’s Operational Rules and a breach of the sport’s Betting Code of Conduct prior to the Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth round tie against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats last weekend.
A national newspaper investigation reports that Leaf, 22, allegedly bet on the Dons to lose prior to the game at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday, which the Wildcats won 50-10.
Leaf played no part in the game due to a thumb injury.
The RFL is also conducting an investigation into alleged breaches of Operational Rules and the Betting Code of Conduct prior to a Co-operative Championship fixture in 2009.
A statement released by the RFL states that the governing body will be making no further comment on these cases until the conclusion of the investigations.
