Wakefield Wildcats 16
Huddersfield Giants 24
WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats lost out to Super League rivals Huddersfield Giants in their pre-season friendly clash at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Sunday.
Giants put the first points on the scoreboard after only six minutes when Joe Wardle crossed for a try converted by Gregg McNally.
The lead was doubled eight minutes later thanks to hooker Shaun Lunt’s score and McNally’s extras.
Wakefield slowly fought their way back into the game and skipper Glenn Morrison crashed over to open the hosts’ account with a minute of the first half remaining.
An impressive touchline conversion from Josh Veivers made it 12-6 at the break.
Huddersfield were the first to score in the second period through winger Greg Johnson’s try, improved by McNally, on 55 minutes.
Wakefield responded three minutes later with a Kevin Penny try and the lead was cut to just two points when Sam Obst touched-down and Veivers goaled.
But the Giants held firm and Johnson went over for his second score of the day on 69 minutes, again converted by McNally, that sealed victory for the visitors.
