Kear promotes young guns to Wildcats’ 19-man squad to face Warrington

WAKEFIELD Wildcats head coach John Kear has called youngsters Matt Wildie and Greg Johnson into his 19-man squad to face Warrington Wolves at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Friday.

The duo both impressed for Wildcats Reserves in their 36-20 victory over their Bradford Bulls counterparts on Saturday and have been rewarded with a call-up to the first-team squad.

Paul King also returns to the fold, with Ben Gledhill and James Davey missing out from last week.

Ben Jeffries has yet to return and there’s no place for Jeremy Smith.

Former Wakefield players Ryan Atkins, Ben Westwood and David Solomona are named in Warrington’s 19-man squad.

Wildcats: Penny, Murphy, George, Korkidas, Rinaldi, King, Henderson, Morrison, Lee, P Johnson, Dean, Mariano, Howarth, Veivers, Wildie, Hyde, G Johnson, Griffin, Amor.

Wolves: Atkins, Blythe, Bridge, Briers, Carvell, Clarke, Evans, Grix, Harrison, Higham, McCarthy, Mitchell, J. Monaghan, M. Monaghan, Myler, Riley, Solomona, Westwood, Wood.
