DANNY Kirmond has replaced Steve Southern as permanent captain of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
The 26-year-old has filled in for Southern, who’s had a stop-start first year with Wakefield owing mainly to injury, numerous times this year.
And Wakefield head coach Richard Agar has taken the decision to name the former Huddersfield Giant as permanent skipper ahead of Sunday’s home clash against Hull FC.
“It’s something I’m really proud of, it’s a massive honour to captain your hometown club,” said Kirmond.
“It’s something I’ve not really looked at doing before but given the opportunity it’s a huge accolade for myself.”
Agar says Southern was “happy to relinquish” the role in order to “concentrate on his own game and fitness”.
Full-back Richie Mathers, on a season-long loan from Castleford Tigers, will be vice-captain.
