FORWARD Frankie Mariano has signed a new two-year contract at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Mariano signed for the club during the off season on an initial one-year contract and has scored five tries in his 12 appearances.

Mariano said: “I’m really happy to sign the new contract. I’m thoroughly enjoying my time at the club and playing some of the best rugby of my career at the moment.

“The club gave me a chance to prove what I can do and I wanted to repay that by staying loyal and signing the contract extension.”

Wildcats head coach John Kear said: “The Wildcats are very pleased that Frankie has pledged his future to the club as a thank you to the club giving him an opportunity which is widely acknowledged that he has taken.

“We look forward to working further with Frankie to fulfil his obvious potential and develop him into an outstanding British back row forward.”

James Elston, Wildcats chief executive said: “It’s great to see Frankie putting pen to paper on a deal that keeps him at the club for the next two years.

“We are building our future around young British players, who are committed to achieving success with the club and Frankie epitomises this.”

Elston also confirmed that the club are very close to securing the signature of half-back Matty Wildie on a two-year contract extension.
