Wakefield Trinity Wildcats head coach James Webster admitted that his team struggled to come to terms with the torrential rain in their 18-10 win over London Broncos.
A downpour at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium made the going difficult for the hosts who fought back from 10-4 down at the break to deny London their first points of the First Utility Super League season.
Webster said: “Once we started to respect the conditions and kick-chase a bit harder I thought we got some results.
“We didn’t acclimatise quickly enough [to the conditions]. We tried to pass the ball too much and it took us time to sit down and speak about it, like we did at half-time, for it to sink into the side.”
“We didn’t get any chance to show anything we practised, it was such horrible conditions.”
Webster added: “I knew London were going to be tough. They are a big strong team and the conditions suited them.
“I am relieved and happy for the boys and they showed some true grit. There is no doubt we made it hard for ourselves but I am really encouraged by the effort we showed.”
