Wakefield Trinity Wildcats will visit Kingstone Press Championship One side Hemel Stags in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup Fourth Round.

The draw took place at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, the home of cup holders Warrington Wolves, on Monday afternoon and pitted Wildcats with a trip south to face a side only admitted into the Championship this season.

Hemel beat Ince Rose Bridge 50-18 on Saturday to progress to the Fourth Round and will be keen to pit their wits against Super League opposition for the first time since joining the Championship.

For Wakefield, the draw is a far cry from last season when they were drawn away at Leeds Rhinos, and ultimately bowed out of the competition at the first hurdle.

Wildcats will be firm favourites to progress this time, however, and the club could look to play their postponed Super League clash against Leeds Rhinos before the game with the Stags.

Opportunies to rearrange the West Yorkshire derby are at a premium and Wakefield head coach Richard Agar said last week that the club would look at playing the Leeds game before the cup clash, if the draw was “kind” to them.

“For us what we’re taking into consideration is we’ve got to fit that Leeds Rhinos game in somewhere, and I suppose it’s a possibility, depending on how the draw goes, if we can get it in and around that week,” said Agar.

“So it’d be great for us if the draw was fairly kind to us and it would enable us to get the rearranged fixture in against Leeds in at some point during that week.”

He added: “To rely on neither side being part of the latter rounds is a risk and you’re starting to run out of time then. It is a possibility if that happens we could look to play it on a Wednesday or Thursday night with the Challenge Cup game on the Sunday.”

Leeds have a tougher test in the Fourth Round, however, with an all-Super League clash against Castleford Tigers, and all parties will need to enter talks before giving any rearranged game the green light.

Ties are scheduled to be played over the weekend of April 20/21 with televised matches to be announced in due course.
