WAKEFIELD Wildcats continued their pre-season preparations with a useful workout and a 30-10 victory against Dewsbury Rams at the Tetley’s Stadium on Sunday.
A Wakefield side mixed with youth and experience enjoyed a good workout against their Co-operative Championship hosts as they ramped-up their preparations for the forthcoming Super League campaign.
John Kear’s men were far from spectacular in their performance, but the Wildcats head coach will have been pleased with the workout as his new-look side continue to gel ahead of the big kick-off against Castleford Tigers at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday, February 12.
Kear included eight new signings in his starting line-up and Wildcats were first to cross the line ten minutes in when the impressive Josh Veivers put Daryl Millard in for the opening try.
Kieron Hyde and Frankie Mariano also crossed the whitewash as the visitors dominated the first-half to lead 18-0.
The tries continued for Wakefield on the restart through Aaron Murphy before Rams responded with their first points through a Scott Turner try.
The try gave the hosts a confidence boost and they had two tries chalked off before Luke Menzies added their second try of the match.
Wildcats had the final say though as Veivers continued his impressive scoring tally by converting his own try on the hooter.
