WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats boss Richard Agar has expressed his frustration that second rower Danny Kirmond is facing time on the sidelines with a fractured cheekbone and eye socket.
Kirmond was feared to have fractured his cheekbone in the closing stages of last week’s win over London Broncos but appeared to have avoided injury and was named in Agar’s 19-man squad for last Sunday’s clash with Hull FC.
However, further late tests resulted in Agar withdrawing the newly-appointed Wildcats skipper from his squad. Agar explained: “Danny had been cleared on his X-rays but on Thursday afternoon we got a phone call to say could he should come back in and revisit.
“Someone else has had a look at the X-rays and told us there could be a [cheekbone] crack.
“He saw a different person who gave him a CAT scan as a precaution and on Saturday morning we got the results through.
“Not only has he cracked his cheekbone but he has fractured his eye socket.
“We are a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to know until Saturday, after doing the initial checks in the week, but it’s good that we didn’t let him take to the field with a nasty injury.”
